Elmer Lewis Meyers, 88, of Lorain passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017 in the arms of his loving wife at the Mercy-New Life Hospice in Lorain.
     Mr. Meyers was born in Lorain on April 8, 1929, the son of William G. and Amelia (Nee Bertsch) Meyers. Living his entire life in  the Lorain and Sheffield Lake area, he was a graduate of Brookside High School in 1948. He attended Lorain County Community College to obtain his real estate sales license. He also attended the Cleveland School of Barbering and became a master barber.
     He worked at the former Thew Shovel and the for the former B. F. Goodrich, retiring in 1989 following 25 years of service.
     Mr. Meyers was a longtime member of the former Lorain First United Methodist Church and then Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria. He was active in the community serving as the youngest councilman in Sheffield Lake history. He was a member of the F & AM Black River Lodge # 786, Lorain County Shrine Club, Fellowcraft Club, Grand Council of Royal & Selected Masons Elyria Council # 86, Mystic Chapter # 170, Council # 103 and Commandry # 65.
     He was also a member of the Moose Lodge # 552, Century Families of Lorain County, Ohio Genealogical Society, Lorain, Lorain County, Brownhelm, and Sheffield Historical Societies, created a scholarship with Faith Followers of Helen Steiner Rice, Lorain County Photographers Club, Lorain County Computer Users Group and the Community Foundation, social member of the Italian-American Veterans Club and a honorary member of the VFW.
     Mr. Meyers enjoyed dancing, traveling, doing family research, volunteering and especially being with family and friends.
     He is survived by his wife of 24 years Nancy (nee Clay) Meyers, a daughter Diana Meyers of Ohio, step children, John (Pattie) Hardie of Colorado, Patricia Ketring Horst of Omaha, NE, Michael D. Ketring of Manhattan, NY, William C. Ketring of Charlotte, NC, Roy D. Ketring of Elyria, Kenneth C. Ketring of Hinckley, Rebecca L (Nee Applebee) JonBose of Magnolia, TX, David A Applebee of Houston, TX,  12 step-grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 4 nieces, 5 nephews and a special step son George (Karen) Hardie of Carol, and a longtime family friend Jean Cook of Lorain.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Helen A. (nee Crana) Hardie Meyers, brothers, Clinton W., Walter B., Raymond H, Samuel A., Charles F., Wilbur L. Meyers, sisters Zora Skudeefa, Ruth M. Plott, Dorothy C. Mahalik and Ester A. Kopchik.
      The Black River Masonic Lodge will have a memorial service on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. Following the Masonic service, the Rev. James Smucker will lead a Celebration of Life.
