Herbert Tellman

August 8, 1921 ~ May 9, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old


     Herbert Tellman, 95 of Sedona, Arizona, formerly of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, May 9 2017 at the Sedona Winds Independent Living Center in Sedona following a short illness.
     Mr. Tellman was born in Lorain on August 8, 1921, a son of the late Daniel and Edna G. (nee Johns) Tellman. He graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1938.
     He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was assigned aboard the USS Ommaney Bay, which was attacked and sunk by a Japanese dive bomber. He was rescued following an extended time in the water. He was then assigned to the USS Mexico. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with two stars and the Good Conduct Medal. For many years, he attended the Unit Reunion of his shipmates.
     Mr. Tellman was a long time member of the former Emmanuel United Methodist Church, now known as Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church.
     He was retired from Ford Motor Corp as an administrative assistant. He previously worked Warner Engineering.  
     Mr. Tellman was a former member of the Exchange Club, and spent many hours volunteering at the former Community Hospital along his wife, the late Annabel Tellman. He was a member of the Lorain High School Band Parents and Music Parents, Music Booster from 1962 to 1969, former member of the Masonic Lodge # 552, attended Senior Fellowship at Emmanuel Church and member of the former Saxon Club.
     He loved playing golf, was an accomplished woodworker, enjoyed fishing, music and playing the saxophone. Years ago, he held a position playing sax with a local band.
     Mr. Tellman is survived by a daughter Janet T Campbell, of Livonia, MI,grandsons, Mark T (Stacey) Campbell, Scott C.(Lacey) Campbell, 5 great Granddaughters, former son in law: Bruce (Joy ) Ullock, his Arizona companion and dear friend Suzanne Dayton and a beloved niece Joyce Black Beckler of Berlin Heights.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Annabel R. Tellman on April 14, 2008, his daughter Kathy J Ullock in 2012, his brother Daniel Tellman and sister Edna Black.
     Friends may call on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 6-8 PM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
     Funeral Services will be in the funeral home on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Lisa Morrison, associate pastor of the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, officiating.
     Burial will follow in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst Township. Full military honors provided jointly by the US Navy and the DAV Louis Proy Post # 20.
