Thomas J. "Whitey" Elek, 70, of Lorain passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain following a long illness.
Mr. Elek was born in Elyria on April 29, 1947, the son of the late Robert G. and Winifred E. (nee Quick) and Elek.
He was a 1966 graduate of Lorain High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Elek retired as an electrician from US Steel in Lorain in 2003 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 30. He enjoyed golf and trips to Myrtle Beach.
He is survived by his wife Sharon A. (nee Denger) Elek, daughter Jan M Helbig of Lorain, sons Thomas R Elek, Michael B, (Jennifer) Elek all of Elyria, 7 grandchildren, a great granddaughter on the way, .sister, Joyce D VanSickle of Lorain, brothers Robert P. (Linda) Elek of Elyria, Tim B. (Deane) Elek, of Gold Canyon, AZ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Bruce W. Elek, sister, Linda L Tennet and a niece Belinda Elek.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 2:00 PM to services at 4:00 PM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. The Rev. Rick Young, pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church will officiate.
