Saundra Jean Tucker (nee Campbell), 86, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 after a very short illness.
She was born August 27, 1937 in Kittanning, PA to Chester and Mary Campbell.
Sandy lived in Lorain since the age of 4. She was a 1955 B graduate of Lorain High School. She met her husband Gaylord in the first grade. They began dating in high school and were married for 69 years on April 6.
Sandy loved music. She started piano at the age of 4 and organ at age 13. She taught piano lessons out of her home for many years and was a church organist. She played at First Congregational Lorain, Faith EUB, Emmanuel EUB, Christ UMC and Heritage Presbyterian. She tallied up that she had played at over 57 churches throughout her life from weddings to funerals and everything in between. She was a much sought after accompanist including churches, schools, local musical theater productions, college auditions and juries.
She was a well-known accompanist for young musicians who attended music contests. She was also employed by North Ridgeville City Schools as the accompanist for the high school music department for 20 years.
Sandy’s generosity knew no bounds as she shared her talent and time. She was always willing to play the piano or organ when asked without expecting anything in return.
Sandy also worked for Lorain City Schools as a teacher’s aide for over 20 years.
Her pride and greatest joy in life were with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Gaylord; sons, Thomas (Dianne) Tucker of Sandusky, Richard (Leslie Kendall) Tucker of Universal City, CA, James (Michele) Tucker of Lorain, daughter Barbara (Mark) Pemberton of Amherst; and six grandchildren: Amy (Craig Miller) Tucker, Ashley (Kyle) Hager, Kyle Tucker, Tyler, Jason, and Allison Pemberton.
