Doris B. (Collyer) Smith

     Doris C. Smith, 100, (nee Collyer) passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village following a brief illness.
     Mrs. Smith was born in Mayville, Wisconsin on June 30, 1916, the daughter of the late Burr and Jennie Elizabeth (nee Shipley) Collyer. She and her family moved to Lorain in 1918.
     She was a graduate of  Lorain High School, Class of  1934 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also graduated  from the White Cross School of Beauty Culture in 1935 and then the Oberlin School of Commerce in 1936.
     Mrs. Smith worked as a bindery clerk at Lorain Printing Co. in Lorain from 1966-1982. Following that she serviced postage stamp machines in Lorain and the surrounding areas.
     She was a charter member of Art League of Lorain County. She enjoyed knitting & crocheting, She especially enjoyed knitting children's caps and mittens for charities at Christmas Time. She was a talented artist, painting with water colors and on ceramic pieces.
     Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons Gilbert D. (Jan) Smith, of Vermilion, Philip T. Smith of Columbia, MD, grandchildren Sean and Shannon Smith and a great grandson Robin Smith.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford T. Smith in 1992, a grandson Steven E. Smith and a brother Dwight B. Collyer.
     The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 10:00 am until a Celebration of Her Life  at 11:00 am. .
     She will laid to rest next to her beloved husband in  Ridge Hill Memorial Park,   Amherst Township.
     In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Neighborhood Alliance Association.
