James R. Broz, 64, of Vermilion passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at U.H. St. John Medical Center in Westlake following a brief illness.
Mr. Broz was born in Lorain on June 2, 1954, a son of the late William J. and MIldred L. (nee James) Broz. He was a 1972 graduate of Lorain High School and graduated from the Federal Aviation Administration Academy. He had attended the Unity Spiritual Center in Westlake.
He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard serving during the Viet Nam War. He obtained the rank of Quartermaster 2nd Class and received National Defense Service Medal and the First Coast Guard Good Conduct Award.
Mr. Broz retired as an air traffic controller in Oberlin in 2004 following more than 22 years of service. He also had worked at the Ridge Tool Co. in Elyria and the Firelands Boys Scout Camp.
He was a motorcycle enthusiast with a special interest in Moto Guzzi motorcycles. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock music, wine tasting events and gardening with a specialty in growing garlic.
Mr. Broz is survived by his daughters, Nicole R. (Greg Sarver) Broz of Chardon, Jenna C. (Dominick) Corridoni of Elyria, sons Ian J. (Danielle) Broz of Burkburnett, TX, Garth R. Broz of Vermilion, grandchildren: Alexander, Elianna, Carter, Lillian, Haleigh, sisters Carol (Doug) Mathews, Cathy Broz all of Lorain, brothers, William J.(Anna) Broz, Richard T. Broz all of Lorain, John E. (Kathy) Broz of Vermilion, Raymond A. Broz of Warren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Monday, February 25, 2019 from Noon until the Celebration of Jim's Life service at 2:00 P.M.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain with full military honors.
