Joseph Marelli, Sr. Obituary

      Joseph Marelli, Sr., 87, of Avon Lake, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at his home following a long illness.
      Mr. Marelli was born in Buffalo, New York on September 13, 1931, the son of the late Michael and Anna (Cipressi) Marelli. He was a graduate Burgard High School in Buffalo, NY.
      He attended the Christian Heritage Church in Avon. 
      Mr. Marelli was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupational Service Medal. He carried the distinction of being one of the few Sailors to achieved the rank of 1st class boilerman within his first enlistment.
      He was a retired supervisor at United Airlines after 33 years retiring in 1990. He then became a driver for Sliman Dodge in Amherst. 
      Mr. Marelli enjoyed listening to radio traffic from the air traffic control tower, working on cars and riding motorcycles. 
      He is survived by his loving wife Ruth J. (nee Terragnoli) Marelli, daughter Darlene G. (Ronald Vasitas) Tallhamer of Avon Lake, son Joseph Marelli, Jr. of Palatine, IL; grandchildren, Michael James Tallhamer, Stephen Joseph Tallhamer, Alaina N. Marelli, Lexi P Marelli, great grandchildren Ian Michael Tallhamer, Fiona Lynn Tallhamer, sisters Olga (Gene) Grammatico of Rochester, NY, Esther (Walter) Bowen and Molly Roy all of Buffalo, NY. 
      In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Frank Marelli and sisters Rose Olenick and Sara Morasco. 
      Services were private.
