Shirley M. Ellis, 91, of Lorain passed into the welcoming arms of Jesus, on Monday, October 29th, 2018, at Kingston of Vermilion under the care of Crossroads Hospice.
Shirley was born September 27, 1927, to Neil and Nettie (nee Pember) Ellis in New London, Ohio. She was about 4 years old when her family moved to Lorain.
She graduated from Lorain High School in 1945. Employed by Columbia Gas as an accounting clerk retiring after 33 years of service.
Shirley taught Sunday School at the former Emmanuel United Methodist Church for nearly 20 years. She loved children and you could see her pitching balls and refereeing the neighborhood boys, taking some to Cedar Point in the summer and cheering on the church basketball team.
She loved animals, especially her cats, "Trouble" and "Tigger". She enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels in the backyard of her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Bill Ellis and Dick Ellis, niece Doreen Huntington and nephew Eric Ellis.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Barbara Ellis, niece Sheryl Pope, both of Fort Collins, CO, nephew Doug Ellis of Shawnee, KS, great nieces and nephews and a number of cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 3, 2018 in the Elmwood Cemetery, family and friends are invited.
