Beverly Ann (nee Layport) Speer, 86, of Elyria, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 following a brief illness.
Mrs. Speer was born in Oberlin on September 13, 1937, the daughter of the late Orville Howard and Elsie Jane (nee Tolprust) Layport. She attended Oberlin High School.
She retired from the circulation department at the Chronicle Telegram in Elyria for 20 plus years. She also worked at the Gibson's Bakery in Oberlin and the General Plug in Grafton.
Mrs. Speer enjoyed watching professional wrestling, playing cards with her children, decorating her yard and house, bingo and playing skeetball, but most of all she loved her grandchildren.
Beverly is survived by her sons, Leo A, (Linda) Speer, Jr., of Nancy, KY; Ernest E, (Rhonda) Speer, Steven A, (Susan) Speer, Jay D, (Melinda) Speer, Lee A Speer of all of Elyria, John R, (Crystal) Speer of Bronston, KY, several grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sisters Jeanne Gunter of Sullivan, and Patricia Layport of Elyria.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leo A. Speer, Sr., a son William Speer, brothers, William, Howard, Donald, Bud, sister Marie, Trudy, Dorothy and infant great grandchild.
Services will be in the Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin on Friday, February 9, 2024 at graveside..
