Carl Raymond Phillips, 88, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Phillips was born in Washington, Pennsylvania on February 3, 1935, son of the late Catherine (nee Phillips) Tennant. He was a graduate of Waynesburg High School, Waynesburg, PA in the class of 1953. Carl attended Lorain County Community College throughout his career at US Steel to further his education.
He was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church.
Carl served in the United States Army, 1957 – 1963. He retired as a Maintenance Manager at US Steel Lorain in 1997, after 28 plus years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 888.
He enjoyed wood carving, golfing, traveling the United States. He also enjoyed warmer winters in Florida for 20 of the last 25 years. Carl loved spending time with family and friends.
Carl is survived by daughters, Cathy (John) Deitz, Dana (Greg) Christian of Amherst. Grandchildren, Brian (Mariah) Deitz, Lindsey (Dustin) Voros, Chelsea (Jon) Sobotka and Emily (Justin) Luthy. Great grandchildren Hayden, Ainsley, Connor, Landon, Kelsea, Everett and Mackenzie "Mack".
Carl is also survived by his loving companion of 25 years, Barb Shinsky.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by brothers William Phillips, Ronald Tennant, Clarence Tennant and a sister Connie Addis.
Friends may call on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 West 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral Services will be Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home with Rev Adam Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Cemetery, Amherst Township, with full military honors.
