Cynthia Marie (Payne) Chaplar

In Loving Memory of Cynthia Chaplar
December 20, 1964 – September 4, 2025

Cynthia Chaplar, 60, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Born on December 20, 1964, in Elyria, she was the beloved daughter of Joan (Meecha) Payne and the late James William Payne.

Cynthia lived a life filled with kindness, creativity, and devotion to her loved ones. She dedicated many years of her working life to helping others, including time spent repairing oxygen tanks at Invacare in Elyria, providing care at Lifecare of Elyria, and serving as a security guard at the Oberlin College Museum. Her work was always marked by compassion, diligence, and a deep sense of responsibility.

A woman of many talents and interests, Cynthia had a deep love for arts and crafts, and she was happiest when creating something with her hands. She found joy in baking for her family, attending music concerts, and spending time around horses and cows—animals that brought her peace and happiness.

Cynthia is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Alan "Elmer"  Chaplar; her two loving daughters, Alicia Chaplar (and her significant other, Jack Sharp) and Alexa Chaplar, all of Elyria; and her cherished grandsons, Jackson, Alex, and Michael Sharp. She also leaves behind her dear mother, Joan Payne, of Elyria.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her vibrant creativity, and the unconditional love she gave to her family and friends. Her warmth and laughter will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in all who knew and loved her.

A family and friends gathering will be held on Friday, September 12th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter, a cause close to the family's heart.
