Edward D. Thompson, 63, of Elyria passed away on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 after a very brief illness. Ed was born in Elyria, Ohio on September 30th, 1959. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Allen and mother, Barbara May (nee Jones), and sister, Susan May Thompson.
Ed provided for his family for 44 years by truck driving, beginning at Ross Incineration Services, Inc. and retired from Barr-Nunn Trucking company out of Granger, Iowa.
Ed enjoyed hobbies such as, remote control cars and woodworking. He participated in several activities such as canoeing, baseball, golfing and volleyball. Toys for Tots Foundation volleyball tournament always held a special place in Ed’s heart.
Ed served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a lifelong member of the Amvets.
Ed is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Margaret S. (nee Ferrell) Thompson; daughter, Angela D. (John Northcott) Thompson, of Avon Lake; son, Jeremy E. (Taya Neal) Thompson of Elyria; step-daughters, Kendra M. Horn of Elyria and Melanie K. (Joel) Mandoke of Elyria; step-son, Tyler R. (Brianna) Grass of North Ridgeville; brothers, Donald A. (Stella Heafele) Thompson of Elyria and Steven E. Thompson of Cincinnati; sisters, Nancy L. Hensley of Eaton Twp and Jane E. (Darryl) Conrad of Grafton.
11 grandchildren, Tristan, Domenyte, Harmony, Jackson, William, Aiden, Charlie, Zoe, Abigail, Onyx and Ruth. Favorite Uncle to many nephews and nieces.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life which will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to a charity of your choice.
