Eileen was born in her grandparent Roach’s home in Vinton, Va., June 13, 1928. When she was three years old, her family moved to Midland, Pa., where she attended Midland High School, graduating in 1946. She graduated from Slippery Rock State College in 1950, did graduate work at Penn State University in 1951 and in 1978, at Ohio State extension.

In 1951, she married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph W. Lindsay. After he graduated from Penn State University, he entered the Marines. While he was in the Marines, they lived in Virginia and California. Following his service career in 1953, they moved to Lorain, Ohio. Their four children were born in Lorain.

Eileen was an elder at Northminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. After Northminster and Westminster merged to become Heritage Presbyterian Church, she continued to be an elder, sing in the choir, was a member of a Bible study group and a book group. She and her husband were co-chairpersons of the Food Program at Heritage for a number of years.

Eileen was passionate about education and serving her community. She was a member and held offices in PTO, Wimodaughsis and Colony Club. She was an elementary school teacher in Pennsylvania and California. She taught special education in Lorain, retiring in 1991. She did volunteer work, knitting hats for newborns and sewing dolls for young cancer patients. Her interests included her church, sewing, quilting, reading, volunteering and traveling.

A devoted mother, grandmother and “GG,” her greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, and constant presence in the lives of those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph W. Lindsay, her parents, Thelma (nee Widener) and Leslie B. Roach and a sister, Margaret, in infancy.
