Ferne Judith (Asch) Gorchester

     On the morning of March 14, 2023, Ferne Judith Gorchester passed away at the age of 93 in Port Charlotte, FL.

     Ferne Gorchester was born in Lorain, OH on June 5, 1929. She was the fourth child of Morris and Annette Asch.

     Ferne had many hobbies and interests throughout her life. She was very involved with her local JCC where she spent many years teaching swim lessons. Her love of the water carried into her adult life as she split her time between her home on Kelleys Island, OH overlooking beautiful Lake Erie and her home on Hollywood Beach in Florida. She relished the opportunity to share stories of her childhood and the mischief her and her siblings would get into. She was often seen wearing a colorful outfit with a fun hat and had a witty sense of humor to accompany such a look.

     Ferne is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William Gorchester, her parents, Morris and Annette Asch, her brother, Sanford Asch, and her sister, Carmel Karas.

     Ferne is survived by her sister, Leah Dee Kahn, brother, Herbert Asch, daughter, Diane (Norman) Wright, grandson, Nathan (Lynsey) Wright, and two great grandchildren, Grayson and Harper Wright. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

     A graveside service will be held in Lorain, OH on Sunday, March 19th at 12:45pm at the Salem Jewish Cemetery. Lunch to follow at her childhood synagogue, Agudath B’nai Israel.
