James S. "Jim" Kirk, 79, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain following a brief.
Mr. Kirk was born in Ironton on October 14, 1943, the son of the late James Thurman and Lilian Virginia (nee Stevens) Kirk.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a supervisor at the former Ford Lorain Plant. He was a member of the Masons F & AM and American Legion.
Jim was a loved and colorful neighborhood icon. He loved telling stories and never met a stranger. He enjoyed old and restored cars. He traveled extensively to find that special deal on whatever vehicle caught his eye. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Living across the street from the funeral home, it wasn't unusual for the funeral home staff to arrive at the funeral home to find an RV, old car, or trailer setting in the parking lot.
He volunteered to deliver food for Second Harvest. He was always eager to discuss local politics and issues.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Kelli Hayes of England, AR, 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a sister Thurma Yavetta Kirk of Cypress, TX.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Esther A. Kirk (nee Leach) in 2013, son James Christopher Kirk in 1986, great grandson Michael A. Lanum, brother Gregory Kirk and a sister Jennifer Tackett,
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 am in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 North Ridge Road, Amherst with Rev. Jeff Baker, officiating.
