She graduated from Mannington High School and attended West Virginia University where she majored in music (piano, pipe organ and voice) with a concentration in music education. While at WVU she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. In 1960, Persis moved to Lorain, Ohio where she resided for 61 years. In 2021, she moved to Lakewood, Ohio to live next door to her daughter and son-in-law.
Persis began playing the piano at age three and played both the piano and pipe organ for the rest of her life. She was a gifted musician with perfect pitch and could play any type of music. In addition to being a music teacher with the Lorain City Schools, Persis worked as an organist and choir director throughout Lorain. Most recently, she worked at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, retiring in 2013 after 24 years of service. She regularly accompanied concerts and musicals as well as various religious events.
On June 18, 1963, Persis married Michael Sosiak of Lorain, Ohio following a one-month engagement. They eloped to Tucumcari, New Mexico and were married for 55 years. Persis and Michael had one daughter, Persis Anne Sosiak (Brett W. Miller) of Lakewood, Ohio.
Persis was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, the Ohio Education Association-Retired and the Lorain Education Association-Retired.
Persis was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister (Rebecca Lou Eshenbaugh).
