Randolph Caswell Obituary

Randolph "Randy" Maurice Caswell, age 84, of Lorain, Ohio passed away on November 15, 2015 at his home following a lengthy illness. Randy was born on May 5th, 1931 in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada to the late Thomas and Grace (Allen) Caswell. He was one of 4 children. He lived in Woodland, Maine throughout his childhood.
Randy was a 1948 graduate of Woodland High School in Woodland, Maine. After graduating, he joined the Army and served in the Korean War. Once he returned home he became a paper maker at the St. Croix Paper Mill for 17 years.
During this time he met and married Eleanor Dinsmore. They made their home in Calais, Maine and had 3 children; Brenda, Cathy, and Mark. Many summers were spent at their camp on Round Pond. Unfortunately the marriage dissolved after a number of years.
He later met and married Margarete Mueller on September 30, 1972. Their marriage lasted over 43 years until his death. They had one daughter, Stephanie. They made their homes in Maine; Virginia; and for the past 11 years in Lorain, Ohio next to their daughter, son-in-law, and 2 granddaughters.
After leaving the paper mill, he was a jack of all trades and enjoyed a variety of careers. He was always building things, whether it was building houses with his brother, building fishing boats & yachts, building & climbing 1900-foot radio towers, or helping build Kingdom Halls.  He has always enjoyed playing the harmonica, woodworking, working on his VW Bug, building canoes/kayaks, and building soda can airplanes.
He became acquainted with Jehovah's Witnesses through his search for bible truths. He started studying with Jehovah's Witnesses in the late 1960's, and made a symbol of his dedication to Jehovah by baptism on August 21, 1970. He was most recently an active member of the Lorain West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.      He served as an elder in the Lorain West congregation up until his death. Prior to moving to Ohio, he served as an elder for many years in the Windsor & Franklin, Virginia congregations. After retiring, he spent a number of years as a Regular Pioneer. He received great joy from sharing with others about the Bible's promise of a wonderful hope for the future. His strong confidence in Jehovah's promise of the paradise earth and that our Creator, Jehovah God, will one day soon end all suffering and the resurrection of dear loved ones constantly sustained him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margarete of Lorain; his children: Cathy (Steve) Courtois of Lyman, ME; Mark Caswell of Portland, ME; and Stephanie (Joseph) Querin of Lorain; Grandchildren: Chrystal & James Courtois, Kacie Simpson & Randi Caswell, and Alexandria & Madilynn Querin;  Great-Grandchildren: Alyssa Godin, Lily & Abigail Courtois, and Ryleigh Caswell; a brother, Tom (Alice) Caswell of Waverly, VA; a step-sister, Ernestine Ellis of Port St. Lucie, FL; and numerous nephews & nieces and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Owens; a grandchild; and his sisters, Violet Dumais & Laura Leeman.
A Memorial service will be held on November 21, 2015 at 2:00pm located at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 2330 E. Skyline Drive Lorain, OH 44053.
