Robert Kessler Obituary

Rober S. Kessler of Avon passed away peacefully on June 4. He was 98.

He was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania on August 12, 1926, to Harry Kessler and Esther (Vinn) Kessler.

At the age of 18, he was called to duty during WWII and served as a Sargeant in the 3rd Army under General George S. Patton. After his military service, he earned a BS in Business from Syracuse University and a JD degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (now part of Cleveland State University.)

He had a long and distinguished legal career in the banking industry in Cleveland as an expert in trust tax. While working in the trust department at the Cleveland Trust Company he met the love of his life, Dove Danzig. They were married on August 12, 1956, and were inseparable for the next 63 years until her passing in 2020.

Bob, as he was known to all, was a member and past president of Agudath B’nai Israel Congregation, Lorain. He was generous with his time and expertise in many charitable endeavors, including assisting with a trust fund held by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland distributing funds to worthwhile causes and those in need.

He leaves behind sons, Lowell Kessler (Joellen) of Avon, and Slater Kessler (Mary) of Catawba Island, grandson Jack Kessler of St. Petersburg, Fl and granddaughter Elena Kessler of Shaker Heights.

Bob enjoyed simple pleasures; bacon and eggs on Sunday morning, going through his pile of newspapers every day and a love/hate relationship with the Cleveland Browns. In younger years, he and his wife could often be found out for dinner with friends, at a film on the weekend, or picking out a book at the library. First and foremost, he was a devoted family man.

He was predeceased in death by his wife Dove, son Dan Kessler, sister Rhoda Cohen and brother Marvin Kessler.

Memorial contributions can be made to Agudath B’nai Israel, 1715 Meister Rd., Lorain, OH 44053.
