Roger W. Hume
Roger W. Hume, 77, of Amherst passed away on July 10, 2023 under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice at Sprenger's Elms Retirement Village in Wellington surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 1, 1946 to the late Elmer and Vivian (nee Sager) Hume. He was a 1963 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School, attended Hiram College and The Ohio State University and 39 other professional courses and seminars.
Roger was born into a design build general contracting business and eventually took over running the Elmer Hume, Inc., that built many banks, hospitals, hospital expansions, churches and manufacturing buildings throughout Lorain County. The company in it's early days built homes and housing developments in Amherst.
In his spare time, Roger was an avid reader, great conversationalist, quick to share a kind word, and loved to be around people. Roger was very proud of his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed dining out, going to the theater and the many years he was able to vacation in the family Canadian boathouse and Edisto Island.
Roger is survived by his daughter Cathy (Jeff Jones) of Wellington and Amherst, step daughters Tracy (David) Whittington of Pittsboro, NC, Megan (Bruce) Muir of Denver, NC., grandchildren; Colleen Tanner, Courtney (Todd) Hardoby, Hannah Whittington, Spencer Whittington, Carter Muir, Emerson Muir, Maxwell Whittington, Avery Muir, great grand daughters Rhea, Mia and Cecelia Hardoby, a sister Pat Parsons of Vermilion and a special friend Gayle Mackie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (nee Pollard) Hume in 2008.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 4 pm - 7 pm in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Funeral services for Mr. Hume will be on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
