Sal Weingarten, 77, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on April 5, 2026 in University Hospital after complications from a stroke.
Born in Rehau, Germany in 1948, Sal immigrated to the United States as a toddler and built a life defined by dedication to his family and his profession. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Izak Weingarten, holocaust survivors.
Sal was a proud graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1966, and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Kent State University in 1970. He later attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, beginning his career as a Podiatrist, where he cared for his patients with skill and compassion.
He is survived by his children, son David Weingarten (Jill) and daughter Abby Weingarten; his cherished granddaughters, Becker Weingarten and Miranda Nodeen; his sister, Susan Weingarten Levy (Bob) and his devoted partner, Rhoda Newman. He is also survived by a nephew, Ben Levy (Stefanie) and many cousins, most of whom grew up in Lorain.
Sal had a deep love for Cleveland sports and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians, now know as the Guardians. He found great joy in sharing his enthusiasm for the game with family and friends. He was also an avid bridge player and at times could be found playing in marathon bridge games in the middle of the night.
Sal will be remembered for his dedication to those he loved, his commitment to his work, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him.
