Shawn Eric Stark, 57, passed away at his home on February 17, 2021. He was born May 30, 1963 in Elyria, Ohio. Shawn is the son of Robert Leroy Stark and the late Sandra Kay Stark (nee Retay). As the eldest, he sheltered and protected his younger brothers, Darren and Ryan Stark, from a demanding upbringing. Shawn graduated with distinction from Firelands High School in 1981. In high school, he was known for his good looks and strong presence. As a teenager, he enjoyed working with the community at Matt’s Meat Market. After graduating, he found his passion for welding working for his grandfather’s company, Retay Welding.
Shawn was a proud veteran and spent over 11 years serving his country, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant working on F-16 Fighter Jets. During his time in the military, he served active duty in the Air Force, the U.S. Air Force Reserves, and the Air National Guard. While serving, he received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Reward, the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon and the Air Force Overseas Ribbon Long Tour. After his active duty military service, he began his career as a Welding and Sheet Metal Professional. He was an active member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 33. In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Shawn was a gifted guitarist playing with several bands throughout Lorain County.
He always tried his hardest to show others how much he valued their love and connection. He fought many internal battles but will be remembered for always showing up for his friends and family.
He is survived by his father Robert Leroy Stark of Koolville, SC, his brothers Darren Stark of Amherst, Ryan Stark of Kipton, nieces and nephews Joshua Stark, Jacob Stark, Leah Bilby, Monica Stark, Cecilia Stark, Colin Stark, great niece Emilia Duffus, Uncle Allen Retay, and Aunt Michelle Retay.
He is preceded in death by his mother Sandra Kay Stark and his grandparents Anthony and Irene Retay and Ralph and JoAnn Stark..
Friends may call from Noon until a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 26, 2021 in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Burial will follow in the Brownhelm Cemetery with full military honors.
