On September 26, 2021, Virginia (Light) Krieg succumbed after a brief struggle with Covid while in the care of New Life Hospice.
Virginia was born on November 7, 1932 in Sheffield Lake, Ohio, graduating with the Brookside High School class of 1949 where she was the lead majorette for the Brookside High School marching band.. She married Harvey Krieg in 1952, moving to Lorain where they raised their family. In 1983 she and her husband moved to Elyria, where they resided until the early 1990s, at which time they relocated to Marathon, Florida, residing at Galway Bay, which is where Virginia resided until 2017, at which time she lost her home to Hurricane Irma and moved back to the Lorain/Elyria area of Ohio.
While living in Ohio Virginia was employed as a server/hostess/manager at several local restaurants, including the Aquamarine Fairway Lounge, the Castle, and the Renaissance. For several years, she and her husband were also the owners/operators of North Star private fishing charters aboard the Polaris out of the Lorain harbor, Spitzer Marina.
While in Florida Virginia was employed in several places including Hawk’s Cay, the Marathon Airport, the Pigeon Key gift shop, and her favorite, running the box office for the Marathon Community Theater, where she was employed full-.time until the age of 84 when she was forced to retire, again due to Hurricane Irma.
In her “spare” time Virginia enjoyed fishing, reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and playing online Canasta with friends the world over. She also enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, The Ohio State Buckeyes football team, and the Cleveland Browns, although she was still on the fence about Baker Mayfield. She did enjoy her Pepsi, so if you own stock in the company, expect a drop in your market shares!
In life, Virginia is survived by her daughters Randi Mealey and Deborah Zahorec, both of Sheffield Village, her son Eric (Beatrice) Krieg of Wellington, her granddaughters Airyn (Mealey) Hunter of Amherst and Lauren Zahorec of Huntington Bay, New York, grandsons Christopher and Andrew Krieg, both of Lorain, Michael Mealey of Amherst, 5 great grandchildren, her big brother Virgil (Jim) Light and wife Eloise of Colorado, and many nieces & nephews.
In death Virginia was preceded by her husband Harvey, her parents Leon Light and Ann (Gantz) Chonko, sons Jeffrey, Mark, and Matthew, sisters Janet Keller and Clarice Kellogg, and son-in-law Michael Mealey.
Services for the family were private. Final arrangements are being handled by the Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th St, Lorain, Ohio where the family will receive family, friends, and acquaintances for a period of remembrance and reflection on Thursday October 7th from 4:00-7:00 pm with a short prayer service to follow.
