William D. Walbom, 83, of Vermilion, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Independence Village in Avon Lake following a long illness.
Mr. Walbom was born in Lorain on January 5, 1938, a son of the late Herman O. and Dulcie M. (nee Thomas) Walbom. He was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard.
He was a 1956 graduate of Lorain High School, and 1970 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University. He attended Calvary Baptist Church Avon Lake.
Mr. Walbom was a longtime member of the Vermilion High School Athletic Booster Club, serving as president, vice president and treasurer. He and his late wife were honored for their years of service to the Boosters. He was an avid sports fan, especially Cleveland teams. He enjoyed watching high school sports and coached several local youth sports teams. He dedicated his life to God and his family.
He retired from Ford Motor in Lorain, the accounting department following 35 years of service.
Bill is survived by daughters, Laurel (Jack) Purtell of Westerville, Christine (Rendel) Smith of Upper Arlington, sons Brad (Lori) Walbom of Avon, Darrin (Marilyn) Walbom of Plain City, William (Janine) Walbom Jr., of Vermilion, grandchildren: Kelsey (John Dailey) Purtell, Kenzie Purtell, Courtney Purtell, Rachel ( Garrett) Figgins, Joshua (Jessica) Walbom, Mikayla (Jacob) Rutkowski, Emily Walbom, Zachary Walbom, Melissa Walbom, Bailey Smith, Brooke Smith, Brenna Smith, Bethany Smith, great grandchildren: Tatum Dailey, Amelia Figgins, Judah Figgins, Evelyn Figgins, Gwyneth Figgins, Jedidiah Walbom, Jeremiah Walbom, Josiah Walbom, his sister Karen (Dan) Minnich of Avon Lake and a brother Ronald (Roberta) Walbom of Lorain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Judith L. (nee Erdy) Walbom in 2005, brothers Robert Walbom, Gene Walbom and an infant sister Marlene Walbom.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 6 - 8 pm in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio. Additionally, friends may call on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 10 - noon followed by a Celebration of Life in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst, OH.
